General information on work permit

• A foreign national who enters Russia on non-visa basis should first of all find an employer who has a quota for employment of foreign nationals; afterwards he/she  should enter into employment agreement with him for the purposes of obtaining work permit (WP) 

• WP is issued for the term of 1 year on the date of entering Russia. The date of entrance is considered to be the date which is designated in migration card (migration card is submitted with the documents to migration service as part of application for WP procedure) 

• A foreign national cannot himself (without assistance of employer) obtain WP for the term of 1 year 

• Work permit may be renewed for a term no longer than 1 year since the date of entrance. Procedure of renewal is identical to the procedure of primary issuance of consent documents (for an employer - issuance of quota, for a foreign national - issuance of WP) 

• The term of the process of obtaining quota by an employer depends on the date of application for quota 

• The term of processing the submitted documents in migration service for the purposes of issuance of WP is 10 working days 

• The permit is not the grounds for obtaining temporary residence permit or residence permit in Russia
