Foreign passport processing times

Foreign passport processing times depend on the agency where the application is submitted (Russian Federal Migration Service or the consular section of a Russian embassy), as well your type of registration (at your place of residence or your place of stay). Foreign passport type does not affect the processing time (whether it is “old style” or a biometric passport):

• Processing time of no more than one (1) month provided that your foreign passport application is submitted at the office serving the area of your place of residence (permanent registration)

• Processing time of no more than four (4) months provided that you submit your foreign passport application to an office serving the area of your stay (temporary registration)

• Processing time of no more than three (3) months provided that you submit your foreign passport application to a Russian embassy (this path of application processing is generally open only to Russian citizens living permanently in a foreign country and registered with the consular section of a Russian embassy in their country of residence)

• Processing time of no more than three (3) business days provided that the reason for expedited processing is the need to travel internationally for urgent medical treatment or to address matters associated with a serious disease or death of a close relative. Documentary proof is required for expedited processing
